A radio DJ is having to deal with callers of another kind this week - after his house quickly became inundated with cats.

Amber Sound disc jockey Sean Carter has three feline pets of his own, but two months ago he took in a black and white stray after he discovered her lying on his porch at Bridle Lane, Ripley with five newborn kittens.

Now Sean, who hosts shows on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon on the local station, is hoping to find homes for 13 cats - after a second stray moggy being looked after by him and his next door neighbours also gave birth.

He said: “At the moment all the cats are fine, they are very happy and healthy, doing all the things that kittens do, but I need to find a home for them.

“I didn’t plan on having 16 cats!”

Currently the kittens are staying in upstairs in a spare bedroom, with their mothers taking residence at the house too. He has since taken in yet another stray.

Sean, 46, who has been play says has been an airwave host for five years at the Ripley based radio station, even had to take time off work from his full time job as a manager at Chubb Security to look after all 16.

He says he will be putting out pleas to his listeners in the coming weeks for willing folk to give them new homes.

“I will certainly miss them when they go,” he said. “But I would rather they went to someone that give them the affection they need.”

Sean thanked the charity Cats in Need which has helped supply him with food for the extra hungry mouths.
