The country’s oldest man Reg Dean, pictured, is the president and founding member of Belper-based Dalesmen Male Voice Choir.

The choir meets at Belper’s Strutts Centre and is always on the look out for volunteers to join its ranks. It is hugely proud of being known as the friendly choir and says it does not have the name by chance as anyone joining up is assured of a friendly welcome.

Reg has told fellow Dalesmen about how he even remembers hearing about the Titanic sinking in 1912 – he was nine at the time and remembers being told about the disaster by a family member.

Reg, a former church minister, founded the Dalesmen in 1987. It’s next concert is on August 18 t St Helen’s Church, Mareham-Le-Fin, Lincolnshire.
