TWO THUGS who assaulted a man on a Ripley street in the early hours of Sunday morning were caught and made to apologise. The assault took place at 1.30am on Albion Street, when a 37-year-old Ripley man was approached by two men outside the Generous Briton pub as he walked home. One of the men punched him twice. The victim walked away but he was pulled to the floor where both men started kicking him. He sustained minor injuries and was later able to describe his assailants to the police. Two Ripley males, aged 18 and 21, were arrested on Albion Street.
Under the restorative justice scheme, the pair were made to apologise to the victim and spent the night in a cell and no further action was taken.
A spokeswoman for Debyshire Constabulary said the victim was satisfied that the pair had been sufficiently punished.
