A South Wingfield couple have been left traumatised after they were robbed in their own home by a gang of intruders.
At around 8.40pm on Saturday, March 16 four men entered a house off the B5035 in South Wingfield and demanded money.
The homeowner confronted the intruders and was then assaulted by one of them.
The victim, a 75-year-old man, suffered cuts and bruises to his face and head.
One of the men searched the house before the intruders left - taking only a small amount of money and two mobile phones. The men all wore dark clothing and had their faces covered.
A 54-year-old woman was uninjured during the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Sean Dawson said: “This was a vicious attack on a couple in their own home and it has understandably left them traumatised.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the area between the hours of 6.30pm and 9.30pm to contact police.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help us to catch those responsible.
“I want to reassure residents that incidents of this nature are rare in Derbyshire and we are treating it seriously.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Amber Valley CID on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
