A TEAM of detectives, Mountain Rescue volunteers, police search teams and forensic experts have been commended by the Chief Constable of Derbyshire for their work investigating the murder of Jia Ashton.
Mrs Ashton was murdered in March 2011 on her way home from work at Thorntons in Somercotes.
Specialist search officers combed Sleetmoor Woods and found her property strewn among trees and bushes. The forensic team found tiny traces of DNA and a fingerprint on Jia’s belongings which ultimately led to the killer.
The commendations were presented at an award ceremony at police headquarters in Ripley, on Tuesday, December 6.
