A man has appeared in court charged in connection with an attempted robbery in Ripley.

Scott Riddell, 31, of Nottingham Road, Alfreton, is charged with attempted robbery and the use of violence to secure entry to premises.

He appeared before magistrates in Chesterfield on Monday, April 7, and was remanded in custody until he next appears at Derby Crown Court later this month.

It is alleged that at around 10.15pm on Friday, April 4 a 26-year-old woman was walking along Church Street in the town centre when a man grabbed her and attempted to steal her mobile phone.

A member of the public intervened and the alleged offender ran away.

At around 11pm that night a man knocked on the door of a house on Padley Close, Ripley. As the occupant started to open the door the man allegedly tried to force his way in but was unsuccessful.
