The last few weeks have been busy for the emergency services working to keep Derbyshire’s roads safe – dealing with everything from drink and drug drivers to a series of horror collisions.
These are just some of the latest incidents dealt with by the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.
1. Horror crash on busy A-road
On February 28, the DRPU tweeted: “A50(E) Junction 2 to 1. Severe tailbacks caused by the driver of this Civic whose standard of driving fell below that of a careful and competent driver. No injuries. Driver reported for driving without due care and attention along with no insurance.” Photo: DRPU
2. Driver has car seized after ‘cutting up’ police
On February 28, the DRPU tweeted: “M1 Junction 29. Stopped after cutting police vehicle up on the roundabout. Driver only has a provisional licence. Driving on the motorway with no ‘L’ plates, and unsupervised. Reported and seized.” Photo: DRPU
3. Stolen delivery van recovered
On March 2, the DRPU tweeted: “Glapwell. Van stolen after being left with keys in whilst delivering parcels. Found abandoned 15 minutes after being stolen and with all the parcels still inside. #Lucky.” Photo: DRPU
4. Driver loses car after ‘relying on dad’ to sort insurance
On March 2, the DRPU tweeted: “M1 Motorway. The driver of this one has received a letter from Operation Tutelage indicating that his insurance had expired. He decided to rely upon his dad to sort out such matters so drove anyway despite the warning. Only going to be one result! Seized and reported.” Photo: DRPU
