A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after failing to stop when police tried to pull him over.
Traffic officers attempted to stop a driver of a Renault Clio at 11pm last night as he drove along hands Road in Heanor.
The car continued ontoLoscoe Denby Lane where it careered into a telegraph pole at the junction with Hihg Street, Loscoe.
The pole, situated outside Loscoe Post office was severely damaged and left hanging by its cables.
The Renault Clio was recovered and police officers arrested the driver and passenger of the vehicle.
Neither have been charged at this stage.
The road was closed last night while BT engineers were called to the scene to assess and repair the damaged pole. Police closed the road between High Street and the damaged area as a safety precaution only. It has been reopened now.
An onlooker said BT engineers replaced the stricken pole and the wiring by this morning.
