Dad damaged car in anger

A boozed-up dad damaged a car after flying into a rage on Christmas Day, magistrates have heard.

The Vauxhall Corsa belonged to David Braithwait - the boyfriend of Anthony Curtis’s former girlfriend.

Curtis, who had threatened to attack Mr Braithwait and damage his car during a phone call, was seen kicking and punching the vehicle.

“The complainant went outside and there was a scuffle between the two of them,” said Sarah Haslam, prosecuting.

Curtis, 24, of Albert Street, Ironville, admitted damaging a car at Somercotes on December 25. He had a previous conviction for disorder. He was ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work and given a six-month probation supervision order. He must also pay £60 to a victims-of-crime fund and £85 costs.

Matt Evans, for Curtis, said he received national press publicity after allegedly being attacked and racially abused while serving in the army for five years.

“He is remorseful about the offence and says he takes strong decisions when he’s had a drink,” said Mr Evans.

He had been staying at his ex-partner home and he had been drinking. Helater saw the complainant holding his 20-month-old child, which upset him.
