Burglary pair are jailed for night raid

Two men who burgled a home and garages in a village near Alfreton have been jailed.

Robert Smith, 28, and Gavin Collins, 32, raided a house and three outbuildings in Newton overnight between July 2 and 3.

The pair went into a house on Alfreton Road while the owner was sleeping and stole various items including a bag and laptop.

They also broke into outbuildings on South Street, Main Road and North Street.

The pair were arrested the following morning after they were found in a car on Cragg Lane, Newton, the stolen items.

Smith and Collins, both of Tibshelf, pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary.

Smith was jailed for a year and Collins two years and ten months at a hearing at Derby Crown Court on October 17.
