schools, churches, GP surgeries and businesses across the county are being warned to be on their guard against bogus callers posing as road maintenance contractors working for Derbyshire County Council.
The county council has received a number of complaints about men claiming to be from a company employed to repaint road markings.
Businesses and community venues in Ripley, Alfreton, Duffield, and Ashbourne have been targeted by rogue traders who ask for money to pay for special paint for road markings outside their property. The scammers produce a fake letter claiming to be from the council, which they claim gave them permission to do the work. Anyone who is approached should call Consumer Direct on 08454 040505 or, if they feel threatened call the police.
