Council PR manager axed

Amber Valley Borough Council has made its PR and communications manager redundant as cost-cutting at the authority continues.

Luke Barrett, who had been employed by the council since September 2010, was axed as the authority tries to bolster dwindling finances in the face of Government cutbacks.

His departure comes two months after the council made Peter Carney, the chief executive of Conservative-led Amber Valley Borough Council, redundant, to save on his £102,000-a-year salary.

Individual council departments will now be responsible for responding to media requests.
