Collisions caused by icy roads

Drivers are being warned to take care on the icy roads today through Amber Valley

The colder weather has brought treacherous conditions to some roads in the area.

Last night at 5pm, a gritter lorry and a Ford Focus collided on Hartshay Hill, Ripley, just by the turn-off to Amber Heights.

Traffic delays were caused.

A spokesperson for the force said this morning: “Try to avoid country roads where you can. Take extra precaution and be sure your car and yourself are ready for the journey ahead. Take a blanket and food in the car just in case anything adverse happens.

“Also make sure you give yourself extra time to complete journeys.”

The B5023 between Duffield and Belper is describes as being particularly icy today, the spokesperson added. A Jeep Cherokee has already come off the road there causing tailbacks.
