Marehay-based Nottingham and Derby Hot Air Balloon Club has helped set a new world record for the largest simultaneous launch of hot air balloons.

The event took place on Wednesday morning at the Lorraine World Air Balloon Festival at Chambley-Bussieres Aerodrome in France. The club’s green and white balloon, G-WILB, which is sponsored by Ambergate engineering, firm William Bailey, was one of the 343 balloons which lifted off at the same time to smash the previous record of 329 balloons. Club chairman, Kevin Ison, said: “It was a wonderful experience, the amount of balloons going up at the same time made it quite scary as well really!”
