AN ADVENTUROUS Swanwick man is climbing daunting Mount Kilimanjaro in support of youngsters in Derbyshire.

Peter Whitaker, 60, is scaling the 19,344ft high peak in the hope of raising £25,000 for the charity Valley CIDS.

The money will go towards transforming Turner Farm in Swanwick into an educational and recreation centre.

Peter, who is chairman of the charity, set off earlier this month. He said: “The centre will provide the young people of Amber Valley with fun-packed educational activities to keep them off the streets, giving them a place to have fun, achieve practical skills, learn good values and respect in a positive environment.”

He added: “I’m delighted to have this opportunity. This is a tremendous physical challenge for me, but I know that every step taken will provide support the young people of Derbyshire.” Donate at www.justgiving.com/valleycidsrc.
