A FOUR-legged friend was on hand to help young parishioners remember the true meaning of Easter.

A donkey named Maud trotted her way to All Saints Church, in Ashover, to be the star attraction at its Palm Sunday celebrations, much to the delight of younger church members.

The 20-year-old jenny is owned by Ashover resident Penny Marsden.

She was paraded around the church escorted by members of the All Saints Acorns and Allsorts groups, who waved palm leaves they had made to help re-tell the story of Christ’s triumphal ride into Jerusalem.

The animal is a firm favourite with the Ashover congregation and Rev Alan Telford, who led the service, even thanked her for her impeccable behaviour.
