A CHURCH in Eastwood has celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Eastwood United Reformed Church held a special thanksgiving service bringing together a packed congregation and clergy friends from neighbouring churches.
Herbert Simpson-Eyre – who has been a members of the church for 75 years – was invited to cut the cake.
Rev Peter Meek, moderator of the East Midlands Synod, delivered the sermon and Eastwood Ladies Choir sang ‘As Long as I have Music’.
Among a host of familiar faces present were the church’s previous ministers Rev Peter Barker and Rev Richard Allford.
They were joined by Rev Dave Marvin from Greasley St Marys, John Berry from Hilltop Catholic Church and Rev Brian Keyworth, the former minister at Newthorpe Baptist Church.
Eastwood United Reformed Church, then known as Eastwood Congregational Church, was originally built in 1868 on Nottingham Road.
It is now in Alexander Street.
