Mother's Love: Volunteer Sharon McHale and Manageress Sylvia Handley held a special Mother's Day themed tombola to raise money for the Age UK charity in Matlock.

AN older people’s charity raised £100 by holding a tombola.

Age UK, in Bank Road, Matlock, hosted the event with a Mothers’ Day theme.

The charity gave away prizes such as soaps, perfumes, ornaments, jewellery and clocks.

Sylvia Handley, a supervisor in the store, said: “We had two food baskets and they were both won by elderly people.

“It was really really nice because on gentleman said ‘I shan’t have to buy anything for the next fortnight - and that what it’s all about.”

The money raised from the event will help Age UK continue to support older people locally.

“It might help to pay for a handy man or someone to have a stair lift,” Sylvia explained.

“Every penny that we get helps.

“Thank you to everyone who took part.”
