A landlady and her customers have organised a charity marathon as a tribute to a friend and mentor who lost his battle with cancer.
The Windmill Inn, on Park Road, Heage, will act as the starting point for mile-laps around the village to raise money for Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre (DCHC).
Lorraine Froggatt, 37, lost her dear friend John Redfern, 70, to oesophageal cancer last year.
She said: “We’re raising money for Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre. It was a cause close to John’s heart and we want to honour that.”
The run will start at 12pm on Sunday, October 26. Regulars and community members are invited to run as many laps as they wish, with 20 laps considered the full marathon.
The mother-of-two said: “We have dubbed the event Running for Redders – incorporating John’s nickname.
“He was a pillar of the community and he would have loved this.”
Following the sponsored run there will be a cheque presentation at the pub.
Proceeds raised from the Redders Charity Weekend, held in September will be handed over to DCHC.
