AFTER 29 years at the top of her game, the much loved caretaker and dinner lady of Smalley Richardson Endowed Primary School, Carol Slack, has retired.
Staff and children lavished the 62-year-old from Radford Road in the village, with gifts and flowers in her last week, presenting her with a certificate to thank her for her hard work on Friday, December 17. Pupils also attended a special assembly in her honour.
Carol, who started the job in 1981, says some of the children she watched over in the playground in the eighties are now grandparents.
She said: “We have got a wonderful staff here. We have got a big happy family, but I will really miss the children. Everybody’s been so lovely to me this week.”
