PARISH councillors in Swanwick are looking for help from local residents to help kick-start a new neighbourhood plan.
Residents, organisations, voluntary and community groups are being asked to put themselves forward to get involved in preparing the plans for an extensive development in Swanwick.
In a significant change to the planning system, Swanwick Parish Council can now use neighbourhood planning to permit the development it wants to see - in full or in outline format – without the need for planning applications.
Although a proposed development will not take effect unless there is a majority of support in a referendum of Swanwick residents.
A neighbourhood plan can be taken forward by two types of body - town and parish councils or ‘neighbourhood forums’.
The plan must also include certain conditions, which are legally compliant and take into account wider policy considerations.
The parish authority will now be sending letters to local Swanwick groups and organisations inviting them to add their views to the neighbourhood plan initiative.
Anyone wishing to get involved in the neighbourhood plan or wants to share their views should contact the clerk at Swanwick Parish Council on 07949 392136.
