The first ever café at Heanor Memorial Park has opened as part of a £400,000 redevelopment of the site.

An investment project was launched at the green spot in 2009 by Amber Valley Borough Council and an appeal was launched in January for a commercial operator to take on the running of the kiosk, which cost around £40,000 to convert.

The successful bidder was 23-year-old Vicky Rogan, from Langley Mill, who started operating the café this summer with the help of her father and sister. She said: It’s been really busy during the hot weather and I’m grateful for the support of some of the local businesses who often get their lunch from the kiosk providing a very welcome regular trade.”
