A Heage winemaking company has won a prestigious accolade from BBC Dragons Den star Theo Paphitis.

Each week the business personality picks six small businesses to showcase and promote via his website and this week Amber Valley Wines was one of the lucky few. The firm, founded by partners Duncan Mercer and Barry Lewis, had to describe their business in one Tweet and use the hashtag SBS.

Duncan said: “We are over the moon as this is basically a free promotion that allows us to access excellent advice from one of the best business men and entrepreneurs out there: Theo.”

The business was selected on Monday night and sent their twitter feeds ‘crazy’. The promotion will mean a permanent membership on Theo Paphitis’ exclusive SBS club.

Barry added: “This really couldn’t have come at a better time and will give real momentum to our business.”

Amber Valley Wines will be branching out very shortly to launch its new online store ‘The English Wine Shop’ which will give people the opportunity to try a while range of the very best English Wines and particularly our world beating sparkling English wines.

People will also soon have the opportunity to invest in the firm when AVW launches its Equity for Wine Lovers scheme in the very near future.

Amber Valley Wines was formed in 2011 and planted its first two acres of vineyards in early 2012; their vineyards are in Swanwick, Wessington and Brackenfield. With plans to plant a further four acres in early 2013 and begin construction of its winery in early 2014 it will become the first winery producing wines from their own grapes in Derbyshire.
