Ilkeston’s main shopping street could face a double blow as two more shops look set to close their doors for good.
Administrators for troubled Clinton Cards could not confirm this week whether the Bath Street branch was one of 350 stores facing the chop.
But angry staff members have told the Advertiser that the store is shutting down with a loss of six jobs, but they have not been given a date yet.
One said: “It’s bad really –everything’s all a bit up in the air.
“You just want to know what’s going to happen so you can get on with things.”
Peter Saville, joint administrator and partner at Zolfo Cooper, said that 44 Clintons and Birthdays stores nationwide will close before the end of May.
The other more than 300 stores earmarked for closure may remain open or ‘trade for longer than expected’.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all employees for their professionalism and dedication during this difficult time,” he said.
Further down the hill, staff at outdoor clothing store Yeomans have revealed the store is closing, although they hope it could move to a new site.
But they said that some of the Chesterfield-based firm’s 80 stores nationwide are closing down for good.
No one from the company would make a comment this week on the closure, whether they will be moving to a new location in Ilkeston or where that location might be.
