Traders association gets the keys to the market

Heanor Traders Association has taken over the running of the town’s market from today.

The association’s plans to drive more footfall into the historic market town was approved by borough councillors in April.

It proposed to make it easier to hold a stall in the town centre and increase market days, as well as introduce speciality markets over the next three years.

And today Amber Valley regeneration manager Stephen Jackson handed over the keys to association members on the market place.

He said: “A bigger market brings more reasons for people to come into the town and that benefits all the businesses.

“Everyone always says the market is the main part of Heanor – people are always upset to see it decline.”
