Scheme to aid homes in fuel poverty
A partnership to help people bring down their energy bills has been launched after it was revealed one in five homes in Amber Valley is affected by fuel poverty.
The latest available figures from 2010 reveal that 19.1 per cent of all homes in the borough are affected, compared with the national average of 16 per cent. New figures to be published in May are expected to be higher.
A partnership of 12 Derbyshire-based organisations has launched the Cheaper Energy Together Community Partnership to help bring cheaper energy to households across the UK. The partnership will provide a collective and instant energy switching service to get households a better deal through the power of group buying, and will also offer free energy saving advice and support. All organisations are not-for-profit.
The switching service will be completely free to consumers. A small referral fee will be charged to energy suppliers of between £5 and £8 per switch - less than the industry average of £40-£70. Visit www.cheaperenergytogether.org or call free-phone on 0800 888 6611.
