Plea issued on beer tax

BRITISH Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) members in Amber Valley are calling for a Beer Tax freeze to help secure jobs, after new figures revealed the impact of Britain’s brewing and pub trade on jobs and wages throughout the country.

In Amber Valley, 143 pubs and six breweries directly employ 1,008 people, of whom 438 are under 25.

The BBPA says with so many jobs depending on the trade in every community in Britain, the Government must scrap plans for big increases in Beer Tax in the Budget on March 21. Chief executive Brigid Simmonds wants MPs to back the move.
