FIVE clothing shops in Ripley, Alfreton and Heanor face an uncertain future as the owner of Peacocks and Bonmarche said it was to call in administrators this week.
The Peacock Group, which employs a combined 11,000 staff, said it made the decision after discussions with lenders over debts of £240 million had broken down. It said it was looking for a buyer for the Bonmarche business, but will appoint an administrator in the meantime.
Peacocks has stores on the High Street in Ripley, Institute Lane in Alfreton and the High Street in Heanor, while Bonmarche has outlets on Alfreton High Street and Oxford Street in Ripley.
A group spokesman said it continued to make operating profits, but the group’s overall performance had been hit by debts stemming from a 2006 management buy-out.
