A £450,000 project by Derbyshire County Council to repair a viaduct carrying a busy Ripley road starts this week.
The 100 metre-long viaduct, which carries the A610 over Butterley Hill (B6179) and the former Butterley Works, was built in the early 1980’s
Inspections have revealed that around 100 bridge bearings need replacing. The A610 will remain open while most of the work is carried out but will need to be closed on a few nights on - dates to be confirmed. Temporary traffic lights will also be in place on Butterley Hill at times.
Councillor Simon Spencer said: “This is major project to repair the viaduct which carries a main route in and out of Ripley. It’s a complex project and the work is vital to maintain the safety of the viaduct for road users.”
The work will be carried out by VolkerLaser Ltd, based in Runcorn, Cheshire, and is expected to take 20 weeks to complete.
