A PLANNING application to create an opencast mine in countryside treasured as ‘DH Lawrence land’ has been submitted this week.
UK Coal revealed its plan for Shortwood Farm between Awsworth, Cossall and Trowell villages, back in 2010.
If given the go-ahead the mine could stretch across 320 acres, yield 1.275m tonnes of coal and be operational for more than five years.
Nottinghamshire County Council confirmed on Wednesday that it had received an application but said it was invalid.
UK Coal is expected to make changes to the plan and re-submit it within the next two weeks.
