Florence Shipley Community Care Centre took home top prize in the ‘Best Dementia Care Development’ category of the prestigious Building Better Healthcare Awards.

The Derbyshire County Council-run centre won the top accolade due to its well-designed buildings that enhance the quality of life of its residents to give them an environment as close to ‘home’ as possible. This includes the layout of Florence Shipley being filled with visual clues to help people with dementia feel at ease when they’re moving around the building.

Deputy Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Councillor Paul Jones, said: “It’s a real achievement to be recognised in these awards and we’re very proud to have won.

“This is another example of the county council’s ongoing commitment to investing in quality developments such as Florence Shipley, Lacemaker Court in Long Eaton and Maple Mews in Alfreton to help our vulnerable residents live independently and well.

“The specialist support for people with dementia is tailored to the needs of our residents and the hardworking staff there deserve this recognition.”
