A family-run butchers from Leabrooks is celebrating after one of its products won a place in the grand final of a national catering competition.
Owen Taylor and Sons, of Main Road entered the BPEX Foodservice Pork Product of the Year 2013 contest which rewards top produce featuring on restaurant menus today.
They wowed the judges to earn a gold award in the Fresh Pork Cut category for their ‘Owen Taylor Fruity Pork Ribeye’.
The ribeye has now been selected as one of 18 finalists in with a chance of being crowned overall champion at a ceremony at London’s Butchers Hall on April 12.
Operations manager Carl Evans, said: “We’re delighted with the results. To enter these industry competitions and hear that you’ve made it to the final is just fantastic.
“We really pride ourselves on the provenance of our pork and work closely with a few local farmers.”
The company was also delighted to receive further awards, picking up gold awards for their home cured gammon’ and ‘pork parcel’ and Silver awards for their turkey and cranberry pork pie; pork pie with stilton and ‘Dambuster Roll’.
BPEX Foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger, said: “Pork is one of our favourite foods, be it enjoyed as a roast, steak or in a terrine or pie. We congratulate Owen Taylor and Sons on their achievements in what was an incredibly tough competition.”
