Bonmarche set to shut

Bonmarché in Ripley will close with the loss of seven jobs while the Alfreton branch of the clothing store will remain open.

New owners Sun European Partners will close 160 Bonmarché stores, cutting 1,400 jobs, and will run the business as a 230-store chain.

The future remains uncertain for workers at Bonmarché’s parent company Peacocks, which has stores on the High Street in Ripley, Alfreton’s Institute Lane and Heanor’s High Street. This week Pakistani billionaire Alshair Fiyaz was preparing a rescue bid for the fashion chain after it collapsed under debts last month.
