TWO young people have won apprenticeships with a social housing firm.
Zoe Florence, aged 20, from Leabrooks started her two-year office work planning apprenticeship at Futures Homescape this month along with Liam Jenkins, aged 19, from Heanor, who takes up a three-year post as apprentice plumber.
The pair will both be combining practical experience with study at Derby College towards their NVQ Level Three certificates.
Nearly eight per cent of young people under the age of 25 are out of work in Amber Valley - 33.4 per cent of the total jobless figure for the borough - an increase of 21.6 per cent from last year.
Zoe said: “I knew it was a great chance to get the experience I needed to progress my career and build on my A-Levels. I really wanted a career which would stretch my skills, rather than just a job. It’s going well so far, although there’s a lot to learn! Everyone is being very friendly and helping me pick things up. I’m already building up my portfolio and ultimately I hope to secure a job in management.”
