A LONG-STANDING bank customer was asked to officiate at a ceremony to mark the Heanor branch of NatWest opening for the first time on Saturdays.
One of branch’s oldest customers, Norman Stanley, 84, has banked at the Market Street branch for 70 years.
He and his wife, Christine, attended the ceremony on Thursday and were presented with flowers and a bottle of port.
Mandy Heathcote, bank customer service officer, said: “He’s a regular customer and he’s well known to all of us. He’s part of the fixtures and fittings now!
“He has been with the bank before it became the NatWest in the 1970s.
“He’s a pillar of the community and is involved in the local church at Marlpool. We chose him because he’s been banking with us for such a long time.”
The branch will be open from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays and for an extra half-an-hour until 5pm on weekdays after requests from customers.
The new times come into affect from Saturday, November 26.
