A LOCAL bridal wear model who has worn more than 1,000 wedding dresses during her professional career is getting ready to tie the knot for real.
Emma O’Regan has spent the last 15 years working as a commercial model and has posed as the blushing bride countless times as she shows off the latest fashions at wedding shows, fashion shoots and even on television.
Now the 28-year-old from Horsley Woodhouse, will walk down the aisle for real when she gets married to fiancé Steve Simms, 31, this month. But Emma said that although her work in the wedding industry meant she was up-to-date with the latest fashions, it also made the all-important choice of her dress, ring and even venue far from easy.
She said: “I’ve spent years and years wearing wedding dresses and bridal lingerie and so picking something that made me feel extra special was really difficult.
“Steve has obviously seen me in wedding dresses hundreds of times before and so choosing something that still has the wow factor has been quite tough.
“But in some ways I’m lucky. Because I work at all the major bridal trade shows across the UK I get to see a lot of next season’s gowns in advance, and so the dress I have chosen is pretty unique!”
Steve, who works as a signalling design engineer, drew a picture of Emma’s engagement ring, before having it made especially for her. He proposed during a romantic holiday in St Lucia and the couple have been planning their big day ever since.
The pair will tie the knot at Shottle Hall, in Belper on September 23, a venue Emma first discovered during a fashion shoot in 2007.
She said: “I had never heard of Shottle Hall back then and I hadn’t even met Steve at that stage – but I already knew I’d like to have my wedding there! I really fell in the love with the place.”
Although Emma still models, she also runs Make-up Artist Midlands making sure other blushing brides look magical on their own big day.
Emma added: “I spend almost all day every day working in weddings one way or another – but I’ve been determined not to let that spoil my own big day!”
