A HOST of charities received a boost this week after townsfolk after donated a host of goods to a bric-a-brac sale.
Ripley Spiritualist Church in Argyll Road held its regular Mammoth Jumble Sale on Friday, raising more than £700 for Ripley Community Hospital League of Friends, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance, Macmillan and the Spiritualist Fund of Benevolence.
Church president Bill Hutchinson said the twice yearly bric-a-brac receives such high quality donations from the Ripley public that people from as far as Derby and Chesterfield come to search through the bargains at the Argyll Road church.
Bill, 80, who has been president at the church since 1951, said: “People were queuing up Argyll Road to get in - people were queuing through the yard and down the street!”
“It sounds silly, but we don’t sell any rubbish.”
The church’s next jumble sale will be its spring fair on Saturday, May 5. Non-clothing items will be on sale there from 2pm.
