A HEANOR teenager who has battled injury to qualify for a sporting championship is set to raise cash in a sponsored swim this weekend.
Jack Mason, 14, of Park Street, wants to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK and the stoma ward at the Royal Derby Hospital where his grandmother was successfully treated for the condition.
But the keen swimmer was injured in a hockey accident 18 months ago and faces having his left femur broken and then pinned back into place.
Mum Jinene, 39, said of Jack: “The consultants were going to operate before Christmas.
“But he told them he wanted to put it back until March so he could compete in the National Speed Championships.
“He’s been in and out of plaster ever since.”
Jack’s auntie has already collected over £100 and there will be a raffle and tombola on the day.
Jack will be swimming at William Gregg VC Leisure Centre in Heanor on Sunday afternoon.
To sponsor him, contact Jinene on 01773 710115 or 07855222169.
