More than 100 barges are expected to line Erewash Canal through Langley Mill over Spring Bank Holiday as part of a three day boat rally.
The event is to mark the 45th anniversary of the Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association and the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Great Northern Basin in Langley Mill.
Barge owners from all over the country are expected to descend on the village for three days of events running from Saturday, May 25, to Monday May 27, from 10am until 5pm each day.
The Holymoorside Brass Band are to kick off the opening ceremony on Saturday morning with a performance from two working narrow boats. Throughout the weekend there will be a host of trade stalls, a boaters’ dog show, face painting, story telling and plenty of food and refreshments including a real ale bar.
A raffle with top prizes such as a Kindle Touch courtesty of Langley Mill’s 3663 depot; a £45 Asda gift card; a 110 piece tool kit courtesy of hardware firm Blake and Beeley and a 70 per cent discount voucher on all Skills coach tours, will run over the three days. Admission for the weekend is free, with most of the stalls at the Langley Bridge Lock, off Derby Road.
Trade stall owners can still apply for a pitch to John Nixey on 0115 9384872 07831 276557. Application forms are available from the website: erewashcanalpreservationanddevelopmentassoc.org.uk/
