A Codnor couple were among bikers who made a special journey to present a cheque to a bike crash victim.

Harry and Ros Thompson of Codnor, along with 23 members of the The Lost Riders, Centre 9 and the Yamaha Virago Star Owners Club, met up at Junction 26 of the M1 to ride to The Hutt at Ravenshead, Nottingham, to present a cheque to Gabby Wilkinson for £800.

Gabby was knocked of her bicycle in 2011, when she was 17 years old, and was paralysed from the chest down, with fractures to both wrists.

She needed to raise £10,000 for a standing frame and hand bike, so she could get back on the nature trails that she had enjoyed with her family.

Ros Thompson said: “We like to support local charities each year with causes close to us, so when our daughter Tillie Thompson mentioned Gabby, it was put to the group and there was unanimous agreement to raise funds.

“Gabby was wearing our Lost Riders t-shirt and presented with the cheque by club representative Chris Bostock. Gabby also sat on Harry’s bike, a Yamaha Midnight Star.

“We were all touched by how bubbly and chatty Gabby was. And I am pleased to say they now have enough funds for the standing frame and bike.”
