A BIG-HEARTED Ripley beautician hopes to break a world record when she leaps from an aeroplane 30,000ft up in the air with 80 of her pals from pole-dancing classes.
Karrie O’Donnell, 24, who runs Unique Hair and Beauty, on Grosvenor Road, is set to make the giant leap on Saturday, July 9, from Langar Airfield, in Nottinghamshire, in a bid to raise cash for Help for Heroes.
As well as taking the plunge in fancy dress, generous Karrie will also donate ten per cent of her salon’s takings on beauty treatments towards the charity, which helps servicemen and women.
Karrie said: “I’m excited really – but I’m nervous as well!
“I’ve never done it before. It’s all in aid of a worthwhile charity.
“My dad was in Iraq five years ago and my uncle is in the Australian army. It’s going to be a big event and we’ll be camping out afterwards to celebrate.”
Karrie, who lives in Belper, has been a beautician in Ripley since 2007. She moved premises to her Grosvenor Road salon three years ago.
“There’s a big group of us doing it.” Karrie added. “We’re trying to break the world record for the number of female participants in a tandem skydive.
“We’re hoping to have as many as 80 women sky-diving.”
Karrie is taking part in the second Dare Divas 2011 Charity Skydive, which is organised by three companies that teach pole dancing classes throughout the East Midlands. A spokeswoman for the event said: “The plan is to not only to break the record for the number of female participants in a tandem skydive, but also to smash the world record for the participants in a fire walk.
She added: “The event will be taking place over the weekend of the July 9 and 10.”
The weekend event will also include outdoor pole jams with schools from around the country on both days, a barbecue and a party with DJs. Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country.
Prince William recently commended the charity and officially opened their new Rehabilitation Complex at Headley Court.
Ten per cent of beauty treatments at Karrie’s salon, on Wednesday, July 6, Thursday, July 7, and Friday, July 8, will go towards Help for Heroes.
“Any donations will be greatly appreciated!” she added.
