A SKIRMISH of feuding families from the middle ages thrilled onlookers at Codnor Castle this weekend.

The yearly fete in the village was treated to the performance by the War of the Roses Federation Group, which brought to life the battle of the Scarlet closes – a War of the Roses era feud which erupted close to Codnor Castle in 1467. The show was organised by the Codnor Castle Preservation Trust, which also had a marquee at the fete containing plans to turn the castle ruins into a heritage centre. Trust chairman Gavin Chamberlain, said: “The whole event went fantastic, there’s always a lot of interest in the castle.”

The trust raised £400 on the day to add to its heritage bid.
