Maypoles, dancing, plenty of dressing up and – for a change – lots of sunshine were just some of the things enjoyed by Ripley and Heanor folk over a blistering bank holiday weekend.

More than 1,000 townsfolk bathed in the Monday sunshine at Heanor’s ever-popular May Day event.

Market Place was filled for a fun-packed day of activities including rides for children and musical entertainment from a steel band.

And the yearly teddy bear’s leap of faith event proved a hit - with youngsters taking their stuffed toys to the top of top of St Lawrence’s Church before throwing them off the top to perform a 74ft parachute jump.
