AN EVENT which brought together heritage groups from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire has been hailed a great success.

The ‘Back to the Past’ event, at Alfreton Leisure Centre, on Sunday, gathered together around 50 groups involved in everything from projects at Codnor Castle to the excavations at Jacksdale, and the St Martin’s bell restoration fund, in Alfreton, to Durban House, in Eastwood.

Paul Nicholls, vice-chairman of Alfreton Heritage Trust, helped organise it with Carol Taylor-Cockayne, secretary of Jacksdale Heritage Trust.

He said: “I don’t think anything like it has been done before - not as big as that! It was quite a feat in itself. Everybody enjoyed it - and people said they would be happy to come back for another one next year.”

At least 270 people attended the event and all proceeds will go the Derbyshire Autism Services Group.
