MEMBERS of Heanor Floral arts group raised £2,000 for the Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough.

The cash was raised by a garden party held in Heanor in the summer, workshops in Smalley Church Hall for members to learn more about different aspects of flower arranging, and the sale of jewellery at meetings.

Dorothy Allsop, president of Heanor Floral Art Group, presented a cheque to Paula North, of Rainbows Hospice, in the group’s last meeting of 2011.

Rainbows is a respite hospice for children and young adults up to age 30 years suffering from life-limiting, life-threatening illnesses who reside in the East Midlands. It aims to provide short breaks, palliative care, terminal care, bereavement support and counselling to parents, siblings and extended families.

Each year the group votes to support a different charity and last year they raised money for the Derbyshire Leicestershire Rutland Air Ambulance. The group boasts over 60 members and also gets visitors, meeting at the Wilmot Street Centre every third Monday of the month.
