Heanor’s annual festival will this time include street theatre, flower exhibitions and a fun day.
This year’s event starts on Saturday, June 25, and finishes on Saturday, July 2, with the organisers saying there will be lots of activities for locals and visitors to enjoy during the week.
There will also be dancing taster sessions, a five-a-side football competition and the fun day on Thursday, June 26.
Festival secretary Sharon Brown said: “One of the events, popular at previous festivals, has been the heritage exhibition, which depicts various aspects of life in and around old Heanor. In past festivals there have been exhibitions on transport and industry, with displays of work carried out by the students of Heanor Gate Science College.”
This year’s theme will be on sports and leisure and the organisers would like to get in touch with anyone with links to past sports and leisure activities, particularly people who were members of local clubs and organisations.
She said: “Does anyone remember the Rock ‘n’ Roll Society, Caledonian Society or the Horticultural Society and are they still going? What about other clubs – rambling, cycling, fishing, bird watching, swimming, hockey, football and crickets clubs – are they still going?
“If anyone took part in sports and leisure activities or belonged to relevant clubs or organisations, or knows someone that did, and have photos or memorabilia they would be willing to lend for the duration of the festival, the organisers would like to hear from them.”
All photos and memorabilia loaned for the exhibition will be carefully looked after and returned at the end of the festival. Some exhibits may also be shown during a heritage talk on sports and leisure during the festival.
