THE EVER-popular Ripley Fair rolls into town next week.
The fun will begin on Wednesday, October 19, and carry on until the followingMonday, October 24.
The fair, which will be full of all the usual rides and stalls, will take place at three locations — the Market Place, on Shirley Road car park, and on the Malthouse Yard car park behind the Pear Tree pub on Derby Road.
Setting up of the fair begins on Monday, October 17.
Meanwhile, an issue raised at a meeting of Ripley Town Council about how councillors’ meals at a Ripley Fair dinner, held at Lumb Farm in Marehay, would be paid for has been resolved.
At the meeting, Ripley Mayor Cllr Michael Missett said that town councillors’ meals at the dinner would be paid for, but did not say how.
But Cllr Angela Ward asked where the money was coming from and said she failed to see how the council could justify it in tough financial times.
Cllr Steve Freeborn said he would produce evidence of where the money was coming from for the dinners.
Now Cllr Ward has said she hopes all councillors will pay for their meal, while Cllr Freeborn has given some clarification on the matter.
He said: “All councillors shall be paying for their dinner, and that of any guest they bring.
“I am happy that this is confirmed.”
