Ripley’s 761st fair is set to get under way on the market place tomorrow- with the return of some gut wrenching favourites.
The ever popular spinning ‘Superbowl’ ride is to resume its spot at the centre of Market Place along with the usual dodgems and ghost-house.
And this year thrill-seekers will be treated to the new ‘take off’ ride at the Pear Tree pub car park nearby on Derby Road, which lifts and spins brave riders at high speeds.
Secretary of the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Showman’s Guild Bernard Mitchell, said: “We are hoping the market place is going to be chock full of people as usual!”
Showman Ashley Wood, who is part of the organising team and running some of the bigger rides at the Pear Tree said the ‘Bomber’ ride, which lifts riders 120ft in the air, is to make a return this year.
He said: “We try and put something new in every year to keep the fair alive. We still have the traditional rides though, and there are still brandy snaps and hot dogs.”
The fair runs until Monday.
