LIBRARIES in Ripley and South Normanton will be taking part in National Bookstart Week.
Derbyshire County Council is holding 45 free story, song and rhyme times at more than 30 venues around the county.
Every child who attends a session will receive a free book specially commissioned for Bookstart Week.
The free sessions for the under fives and their parents take place between Monday, June 6 and Thursday, June 16.
The theme is All Aboard and there will be stickers and rhyme sheets to collect as well as a free book.
Called All Aboard, the picture book is aimed at the under 5s and tells the story of a journey using lots of different modes of transport including a train, boat, submarine and rocket.
County council leader Cllr Andrew Lewer is urging families to go along. He said: “Help celebrate Bookstart Week with us by coming to one of our events. We are also giving lots of books away which families or carers can share with their children. Children love singing and listening to stories so take them along for lots of fun.”
The Ripley Library event is on Friday, June 10, from 2pm to 3pm, at the Grosvenor Road venue. The South Normanton Library at The Hub, Shiners Way, is also on the Friday, from 10am to 11am. Places are limited so book a free ticket at the libraries or call 07814 560739.
