A BUDDING author is to have her first story printed in a collection after winning a writing competition despite being just five-years-old.
Megan Cork from Ripley won the bed time story writing contest organised by BBC Radio Derby as part of their reading and writing campaign (RaW) polling over 6,000 votes.
Megan's mum Sharon Cork said: "I'm very proud of her. We went to a literacy course together at St John's School in Ripley for 12 weeks and that started it all off.
"An awful lot of people voted for Megan's story to win and I'd like to thank all of them. Everybody was on a high and talking about it at school when she won."
The story, titled: 'Princess Lydia's Lost Smile' is a story based on Megan's younger sister.
For winning the Derbyshire heat of the
competition Megan was given £50 worth of book vouchers while her reward for scooping the overall Midlands prize is seeing her work
published with other winning entries in a special book.
